Biographie

Fiona Annis est une artiste multidisciplinaire qui développe ses projets par le biais d'une pratique rigoureuse d’atelier, conjuguée à des résidences de recherche, des collaborations interdisciplinaires et des mentorats intergénérationnels. Orientée par une approche axée sur le processus et un intérêt marqué pour les archives, sa démarche est unique en ce qu'elle fait le pont entre la photographie, les nouveaux médias et la sculpture, afin d'engager l'histoire matérielle dans une perspective profondément contemporaine. Les projets réalisés par cette artiste comprennent des expositions, des livres d’artistes et des documentaires vidéo, ainsi que des œuvres d’art public d’envergure.

Née à Glasgow en 1983 et ayant grandi au Manitoba, Fiona Annis vit et travaille à Tiohtià:ke – Montréal. Elle a présenté des expositions au Canada et à l’étranger, incluant la Fondation Guido Molinari à Montréal, l’Institut AC à New York, le Centre canadien d’architecture à Montréal, l’Université Goldsmith à Londres, Museo Novecento à Naples, VU Photo à Québec et The Art Gallery of Alberta à Edmonton. Ses œuvres font partie des collections du Musée de la civilisation de Québec, de la Ville d’Ottawa et du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.

Annis a reçu des reconnaissances nationales et internationales, dont le prix de la Brucebo Foundation, tenu au Musée des instruments astronomiques de Capodimonte à Naples ; le prix Jarislowsky, du Banff Centre for the Arts ; et le Fonds de recherche québécois pour la société et la culture, tenu à la Penumbra Foundation de New York. Détentrice d’une maîtrise du Glasgow School of Art et d’un doctorat interdisciplinaire de l’Université Concordia, elle est actuellement professeure adjointe en recherche-création au département d’histoire de l'art, cinéma et médias audiovisuels à l’Université de Montréal.

Biography

Fiona Annis is a multidisciplinary artist who develops projects through a rigorous studio practice, combined with research residencies, interdisciplinary collaborations, and intergenerational mentorships. Guided by a process-oriented approach and a distinct interest for material history, her work is unique in that it bridges photography, new-media, and sculpture, to engage historic knowledge from a deeply contemporary perspective. Her projects include exhibitions, artist books, video documentaries, and large-scale permanent public artworks.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland (1983) and raised in Manitoba, Fiona Annis lives and works in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. Fiona’s work has been presented in national and international exhibitions including: the Guido Molinari Foundation (Montréal), AC Institute (New York City), the Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montréal), Goldsmith’s University (London), Low Salt Gallery (Glasgow), Museo Novecento (Naples), Gallery44 (Toronto), VU Photo (Québec City) and the Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton). Her artwork is featured in the permanent collection of the Museum of Civilization, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, and the public art collection of the city of Ottawa.

Fiona has been awarded national and international fellowships, including the Brucebo Foundation travel prize, held at the Capodimonte Museum of Astronomical Instruments in Naples; the Jarislowsky Prize, held at the Banff Centre for the Arts; and the Quebec Research Fund for Society and Culture, held at the Penumbra Foundation in New York City. With a master’s degree from the Glasgow School of Art and an interdisciplinary doctoral degree from Concordia University, Annis is currently assistant professor of research-creation in the Department of Art History, Cinema, and Audiovisual Media at the University of Montréal.
